IT is nearing crunch time for Atherton Collieries who face three vital games in seven days that will go a long way to determining just how successful their season will be.
Michael Clegg's side need just four points from their remaining 10 league games to be mathematically certain of promotion from North West Counties League First Division.
But with a far superior goal difference to their rivals, realistically they only need a win at home to Holker Old Boys on Monday to clinch their place in the top two.
Before then there is the small matter of a semi-final at Premier Division side Runcorn Town on Saturday in the Men United Cup – the NWCL's main cup competition.
And next weekend they entertain Litherland REMYCA in the last four of the First Division Cup.
Winning through to the Men United final is the first hurdle Clegg's side must overcome, but the manager admits he goes into the game with a number of selection headaches.
“We could be in better shape for Runcorn – Keith Ledge and Gareth Peet are cup tied and Kris Holt is banned,” said Clegg.
“Gareth Roberts is available though. He’s a talented 18-year old, a very clever player. He plays across the forward line and finds space in the mould of a David Silva."
With only six days remaining before the closure of the league's transfer window, Clegg insisted he would respect the work his squad have put into this season and let his tried and trusted players lead them over the line.
Daisy Hill travel to Rochdale Town tonight two points adrift of the play-off places with 10 matches remaining.
LR have slipped to 11th after two home defeats and now face three consecutive away games, the first at Irlam on Saturday.
