A CAR dramatically caught fire while it was being driven in Breightmet on Saturday night.
Witnesses spotted the Citroen Picasso with its wheel arches on fire at 6.15pm as it turned off Bury Road and into the car park of Morrisons supermarket.
One witness, who asked not to be named, said a man and a woman were inside the car and, at the time, appeared unaware of the flames.
He said: "I had just come out of the shop with my family and had got back to my car in the car park.
"Then I saw the Picasso in front of me with fire coming from its wheel arches. It was like a scene from Back to the Future.
"I ran over and told the people in the car 'your car is on fire, you need to get out now'.
"Then I called 999 for the fire service and ran into Home Bargains to tell everyone that they needed to move their cars straight away.
"There was one guy who was scared of moving his car because it was parked right next to the one that was on fire and he thought it might explode, so I got in the passenger seat and sat with him while he moved it."
Fire crews arrived shortly afterwards and put out the fire, which they managed to confine to the Picasso.
