BOLTON residents are furious after the town was slated on an advert for a new ITV show.
Lauren Simon, one of the cast members from The Real Housewives of Cheshire, which is soon to be broadcast on ITVBe, says in an advert for the show: "You don’t choose to go and live in Bolton."
The clip is 20 seconds long - watch it below.
A spokesman for The Real Housewives of Cheshire said Mrs Simon, who is from Hale in Trafford, has friends from Bolton and meant no offence.
However, her remark has been slammed by Boltonians on social media and by Emma Davies, the wife of former Bolton Wanderers star Kevin.
Emma said: “I thought the comment was a bit rude, to be honest. You only have to drive down Chorley New Road to see that Bolton is a nice place.
“I would hate to live in Cheshire, unless I decided to wear a lot of botox. You walk round places in Cheshire and you feel like you have to have make up and high heels on to look the part.
“It’s a bit of a cliché, but Bolton is a real place — I love it here. I have lots of friends in Bolton and I’ve lived here for more than 10 years. I’ve always found it a culturally rich town.
“I haven’t seen the clip yet so I don’t know what context this woman has made her comment in, but it seems like a ploy to get people talking.”
Other residents of the borough took to Twitter and Facebook to express their disgust at the woman’s remark.

Josh/ua @yhs0j said: “Did some woman on 'The Real Housewives of Cheshire' advert just insult the entire population of Bolton?”
A spokesman for the show said: "The Real Housewives of Cheshire is in early stages of filming. Due to the length of the trailer, only a very short clip could be shown.
"The full discussion should air in it's entirety when the series starts in January and show the wider point that Lauren was making.
"Lauren has friends who live in Bolton and certainly didn't mean to cause anyone any offence."
