MRE
Band members, Ben Crossley, Jordan Anthon, Matt Piddington and Luke Finch.
When and where did you form?
Formed in early 2014 as a full band after Ben and Luke had spent a few months playing together trying to find the right people for the band and Jordan responded to a advert online. After a few weeks jamming he suggested Matt to us and that's where it all started out as MRE. Ben and Luke are from Walkden and Boothstown respectively, whilst Matt and Jordan are from tGorton and Droyslden respectively.
What is your sound and who are your influences?
Our sound is made up of a lot of different influences, we make rock n roll with a modern out-take and draw influence from experiences we've all had through our lives. The sound is made up of punk, psychedelic beats and meaningful lyrics. We try to stray away from making the modern guitar music that seems to be cluttering the ears of a generation and try and make something new and different without it becoming synthetic.
What is the biggest gig you have played to date?
Currently we've only played the one gig in After Dark in Bolton town centre which was a massive learning curve for us regarding how to get our music sounding the best it possibly can for the crowd without diluting the quality of it.
If you are not already, is it your ambition to become professional?
The common aim we all share is to take it as far as it can go with the ultimate goal of playing the big festivals like Glastonbury and T in the Park and even our own headline gigs. Hopefully within the next three to five years this dream can be realised and we can get to travel the world as a band and see places that otherwise we wouldn't get the chance too.
Is there anything unusual or interesting about the band?
The most interesting thing about the band is that all the members are different in terms of the music we were brought up with. We all like the generic big bands that are the corner stone's of music, but there's a lot of different textures and sounds going into our music which gives it the unique difference we strive to achieve.
Upcoming gigs?
The next gig we have coming up is on December 5 in Little Hulton, Salford, at the Top Club. Then we have a gig at Night and Day Café in Manchester on December 17, followed by another gig in Bolton at Blind Tiger on Boxing Day. We've also just done our first demo EP recorded at The Big Unit studio in Bolton where three original tracks were professionally recorded.
