THE funeral of Peter Stafford, the Bolton Cricket League president who died last week, will take place at Our Lady of Lourdes Church on Plodder Lane, Farnworth on Wednesday, November 12.
The service will start at 10am and will be followed by committal at Overdale Crematorium with a service for family and close friends. Bradshaw Cricket Club will host a reception in honour of the local cricket stalwart, who died at the age 81 after a long illness.
For many years a columnist for The Bolton News, Stafford was elected president of the league in 2000, having previously served as secretary from 1974 to 1986 and was awarded the Hunert Pendlebury Memorial Trophy in recognition of his service to the league.
A record-breaking wicketkeeper who played at Farnworth, Kearsley and Eagley, he won the league’s wicketkeeping prize in 1961 and 1977 and set a record for the most victims in a season, which was only recently broken.
