Manchester Phoenix 3 Peterborough Phantoms 2
Manchester Phoenix grabbed their first four point weekend with a hard fought victory over Peterborough Phantoms on Sunday.
Phoenix went into the weekend still missing Frantisek Bakrlik with a knee injury, but this was compounded by the loss of Jacob Corson-Heron who broke his collarbone in training during the week.
Despite this and with other players carrying early-season knocks, Phoneix pulled off a fantastic result on Saturday night with a 4-1 victory against Milton Keynes Lightning. Robin Kovar and Michal Psurny bagged one each, with new signing Johan Burlin scoring two.
Phoenix were out of the traps quickly at home on Sunday when James Archer scored with less than four minutes on the clock, and they doubled the lead on 17 minutes when Archer grabbed a second. Archer added to Phoenix' injury worries in the second period when he had to be helped from the ice after a collision with Phantoms' goalie and Johan Burlin did not appear for the third period, either.
Darius Pliskauskas pulled a goal back for Phantoms on 24 minutes, but James Neil scored a third for Phoenix in the final period. Phantoms pulled their netminder in the final seconds for the extra skater and managed to grab a second, but Phoenix held on for the win.
Phoenix are next at home to Sheffield Steeldogs on Thursday 9 October; the game starts at 7:30pm.
