FARNWORTH Social Circle may have had the first team title wrapped up going into the final weekend of the Bolton League season, but there were a handful of other prizes up for grabs.
Westhoughton became the first club ever to win five successive second-team titles, just pipping Greenmount to this year’s crown.
Topping the second team table also helped the St George’s Oval outfit claim a second straight Crumblehulme Cup, awarded to the club with the highest aggregate placing in the first and second-team championships.
Westhoughton finished third in the senior competition, just edged out by Bradshaw, who finished runners-up – their highest league finish since 1962.
Saeed Anwar Jnr’s side enjoyed a strong finish to the season, which helped them to claim the Last Six prize, for the team with the best results in the final six matches.
Horwich sneaked into the top four with two victories in the final weekend, including a win at champions Farnworth Social Circle.
There was extra frustration for Social Circle’s wicketkeeping joint captain Christian Walsh, who needed six more victims in the final two matches to break the all-time record in a Bolton League season. He fell one short of equalling the record, with 53 victims.
Eagley batsman Paul Rayment did manage to reach an individual milestone this season, going past 15,000 career runs in the Bolton League, moving him up to seventh in the all-time list.
