A FIRE broke out at a bedsit in Chorley Old Road.
Fire crews from Bolton Central fire station were called out to the blaze at about 1am yesterday after a smoke alarm alerted a neighbour.
The first floor flat is believed to have been the target of a break-in before the fire broke out.
The fire service said the blaze could have been sparked by a television which was close to a mattress.
No one was in at the time.
The flat was damaged and there was a small amount of smoke damage to the landing.
Watch manager David Holden said: “This incident proves how important it is to have a working smoke alarm.”
