FLIXTON captain Aiden Fetherston is confident his side can finish the job and clinch a first Bolton Association title this weekend.
The championship can be wrapped up with victory over fourth-placed Bury in Section A tomorrow.
And Fetherston says finishing as runners-up last season should give that little bit of extra motivation to the team to go one better.
“We only need five points to win the title and we are confident now as it is in our own hands,” he said.
“I have spoken to the team and they are well up for it.
“There will be some nerves kicking about before the game but I’m sure more of the team will be excited more than anything and very confident of getting the result.
“Bury are the only team we haven’t beaten this year so we have a point to prove and it should keep us that little bit more focused.
“We are always there or thereabouts and we don’t want to let it slip away again.
“We have certainly strengthened this season and that should give us the edge to go one step further.”
Long serving Fetherson, who has been at the club for over 20 years, acknowledges the enormity of the achievement his side is on the verge of completing, but admits it will not be easy against a tough Bury side.
“I have been playing at Flixton since I was 11-years-old and this would be the biggest achievement to date.
“It would be a massive achievement to win the title as we have only ever won the Manchester Second Division title in my time at the club.
“We have not won a big title in a long time so it would mean everything to the club.
“At the beginning of the season we could turn up and expect to win 100 per cent, but since the league split it has all changed and we have had to put in that little bit more commitment and that little bit more effort.
“Any of the top six can beat each other on their day and the standard is always increasing so it will be difficult but I am confident we can do it.”
