A RECRUITMENT consultant who grew cannabis in a tent in his Bromley Cross home made £38,000 from his sideline, a court heard.

Christopher Higson — who used some of the cash to buy a Range Rover — was yesterday ordered to sell the luxury vehicle or face jail.

Police found 12 plants growing at Higson’s house in Grange Road in July 2013.

They were being grown with a lighting and ventilation system and they were capable of producing four crops a year, yielding drugs valued at £16,000.

Higson had previously run a recruitment business and was aiming to recruit staff for a firm of medical negligence solicitors.

Outside Bolton Crown Court — following a proceeds of crime hearing — the engineering graduate vowed to “sort his life out” describing his time as a drug grower as “a blip”. Earlier the court heard Higson’s only remaining asset was a Range Rover valued at £3,878.43.

He has been given until December 3 to pay police that figure or he will spend two months in prison.

After the hearing, Higson, who now lives in Horace Street in Halliwell said: “I am happy to move on now — I am sorting my life out.

“This was a blip and I am now planning to restart a business I had involving civil engineering, that is what I want to get on with.

“I think the hearing was fair and I will be happy to pay the amount, I just want to put this behind me now.”

Earlier this year Higson, aged 27, pleaded guilty to producing cannabis. He was sentenced to 100 hours unpaid work.
