POLICE are cracking down on crime in Daubhill and Deane.
They are holding a "week of action" to find out what residents think of their area and what their concerns are.
Police have joined forces with immigration officers, Bolton Council’s enforcement officers and trading standards to target criminals.
Sgt Andrea Ennis, from Bolton Central Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “Throughout the week we will be doing street surgeries as it allows residents to tell us their concerns about anti-social behaviour and any criminal activity, and it is an opportunity for officers to obtain intelligence about local residents.
“If we have enough information we will respond to intelligence and let residents know what they said and what the police did.”
Police were speaking to residents in and around Oriel Street, asking them how often they saw police and whether they felt reassured when they saw officers.
Environment officers handed residents legal notices informing them that they will face a £100 fine if they are caught not disposing of rubbish properly.
They also educated people about how to recycle. Bolton Council staff went around the streets in the area collecting fly tipped waste, including several mattresses and chairs.
The event follows on from a week of action in May.
During the week, police also seized a hunting knife and a machete during a raid, searched a home following a tip-off from residents that drugs were at the address, and immigration officers arrested a 30-year-old man on suspicion of absconding, an immigration offence after he was spotted at Willow News in Willows Lane, Deane.
Trading standards carried out checks at stops in Daubhill and Deane to see if illegal tobacco or alcohol was being sold.
The awareness weeks take place about every three months.
