THE Bolton News has been honoured by Cancer Research UK.
The charity, which holds Race For Life in Leverhulme Park every years and raises millions nationally to fight the disease, has given the newspaper its Flame of Hope award.
The Bolton News received special commendation for media supporter of the year with the Flame of Hope badge being presented to news editor Jane Lavender.
Jane Bullock, Cancer Research UK spokesman for the North West, said: “The Bolton News is a valued supporter of the charity.
“We know we are able to rely on the team of reporters to speak to cancer patients and people who have lost loved ones with respect.
“During Race For Life season in particular, we are extremely grateful for the loyal support of the paper, which truly makes a difference in women registering for the event at Leverhulme Park.
“News editor Jane Lavender is a great individual to work with as she is honest, warm and fully appreciates the ground-breaking work of the charity and just how important it is for us to gain good local press coverage to support all our fundraising and campaign commitments.”
Almost 2,000 women signed up for this year’s Race For Life in Leverhulme Park.
Jane added: “It’s such an honour to be given this award. Cancer Research UK’s work is vital in beating this terrible disease and we’re delighted to be able to play any part we can in helping this amazing cause.”
The Flame of Hope Awards acknowledge remarkable efforts in fundraising and volunteering made by people from all walks of life.
