THE family of a man who died from cancer raised more than £200 for The Christie.
Alan Yates’ stepsons Steve and Mark, wife Carol and daughter-in-law Janet honoured his memory by hosting a family fun day at Breightmet United Football Club’s ground.
Mr Yates, who was a fundraiser for The Christie, died from stomach cancer in 2010, aged 70, after being treated by the hospital for nine months.
Steve Yates, aged 36, of Halliwell, said: “I was pleased with the response — it gives me a lot of pride to put on events like this.
“As a family, we do as much as we can to raise money and awareness of the great work done by The Christie.
“I want to thank Sam Donnell at the hospice and Breightmet United for helping us raise the money.”
The fun day, which was held at the Moss Park venue on Sunday, raised £217.
It featured children’s activities, stalls and a raffle and was attended by members of the fire service and police.
