AN investigation has been launched into two suspected arson attacks at an industrial mill site.
Police have stepped up patrols in Chorley Old Road after two business at the rear of Nortex Mill were targeted on Monday and Tuesday night.
Extensive enquiries have been carried out to find out whether the two blazes were linked, police said.
However, detectives do not believe the two attacks were targeted at “anyone in particular”.
Det Sgt Pat Wood said: “We are investigating two suspected arsons at Nortex Mill earlier this week and have made extensive enquiries to identify the culprits.
“While these enquiries are being carried out we have stepped up patrols in the area both during the day and at night.
“We have already spoken with many of the businesses at Nortex Mill but I would reiterate that this is not believed to be a series of targeted attacks at anyone in particular.”
Scaffolding planks worth more than £1,000 were destroyed in the first fire in a rented compound at about 11pm on Monday.
An Ambient Driveways skip wagon was destroyed in a second attack on the adjoining compound at about 10pm the following night.
Businesses owners believe the culprits climbed over the spiked fence before wrecking the yards.
Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward.
Det Sgt Wood added: “I would urge anyone who sees any suspicious activity in the area to call police straight away so we can respond accordingly.”
Anyone with information should call police on 101.
