FROM a Tennessee Williams classic to a thriller and much-loved musicals, the stars of Bolton’s theatre scene were honoured for their roles in a raft of productions.
Amateur performers from groups based across the borough dressed up to the nines to enjoy a night of celebration at the annual Bolton Amateur Theatre Society (BATS) Awards.
The Octagon Theatre’s artistic director, David Thacker, the new patron of BATS, joined the society’s chairman Paul Cohen to hand out awards in 14 categories at the Last Drop Village, Bromley Cross, on Friday night.
A special accolade - the Michael Rodgers Award - was given to Bolton Little Theatre chairman Elizabeth Tatman.
The Marco Players scored a double victory for their production of A Streetcar Named Desire, which was awarded Best Drama and Best Actress in a Drama for Julie Hall, who played Blanche DuBois.
Best Newcomer was given to Elliot Longworth, from BCMCS, for his turn as the Pharaoh in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.
Best Actor in a Drama went to Stephen Stubbs for his portrayal of writer Mark Styler in modern psychological thriller Mindgame, at Bolton Little Theatre.
The Best Musical trophy was awarded to St Paul's Players for Annie, Best Comedy to Phoenix Theatre Company for Noble Spaniard, Best Pantomime to St Jospeh's Players for Beauty and the Beast and Best Youth Production went to CATS Youth Theatre for Cats.
There were also three runners-up in each category who received certificates.
