DAISY Hill captain Mark Wood hopes superstition will play a part as Flixton hunt for their 13th league win of the season and edge closer to the Bolton Association title.

Flixton have opened up a 22-point lead over nearest rivals Atherton at the top of Section A but fourth-placed Daisy Hill insist they have proved this season they can mix it with the big boys after beating in-form Bury in recent weeks.

Wood, whose side face Flixton tomorrow, said: “It would be nice to make it difficult for them.

“They have a comfortable lead but we are going to make them work.

“We are missing a few players this weekend but we want to put in a good performance. There is the odd bowler, odd middle-order batsman and it is not a game where you want to be under-par but we have players to come in.”

Daisy Hill suffered a five-wicket defeat to Walshaw last week and Woods hopes his side can bounce back.

He said: “It was a disappointing result as we were looking good at 100-2 then fell apart to 160.

“It is going to be tough on Saturday because Alton Beckford is a powerful cricketer then you also have Steve Hammond and the Perry brothers too.

“But Amjad (Khan) has been great for us this season and is a good all-round cricketer.

“He is very competitive and helps us out by dragging other players through.

“We expect Mark Atherton to come good. He has had a bit of an up and down season but I hope he can get some runs.”
