A SEASON of movie classics will be screened in Bolton.
Cinebox has been given £3,500 by the British Film Institute, Film Audience Network and Film Hub North West Central — administered through the Cornerhouse in Manchester - to show the films.
Run by a team of volunteers, Cinebox is the community cinema wing of thebox.tv social enterprise, based at Elderdale Community Centre in Yewdale Avenue, Breightmet.
The films will be shown at Commerce House in Bridgeman Place — on the last Friday of each month.
The programme starts on September 26 with the screening of Ishio Honda’s 1954 cult classic Godzilla.
Fittingly, it will be followed on October 31 — Halloween — by a special scratch and sniff screening of The Wicker Man.
Cinebox is also promising to showcase new micro-budget British films like the comedy Eight Minutes Idle (2012 and accompanying some screenings there will be post film discussions.
“We were absolutely delighted to get the funding,” said Cinebox community involvement manager Tracy Hindley.
“This is a reaction to the lack of alternative programming in Bolton, which led us to create Cinebox — a space where people can access more left field films while still sharing the communal cinema experience.
“We will be working in conjunction with other local community organisations to offer a number of free taster tickets to people who would not normally access more specialised films.”
Other movies due to be screened will include Stephen Frears’ Prick Up Your Ears (1987) and William Wyler’s The Collector (1965) and Douglas Hickox’s Theatre of Blood (1973).
Tickets are available by going online to CineboxBolton on Facebook.
