A WOMAN whose father is battling lung cancer has raised £3,000 for Bolton Hospice — and will jump from 10,000 feet in aid of the charity.
Danielle Marsden’s father Phil, aged 60, was given the devastating diagnosis in April.
The cancer has spread to his liver and spine, which means he has to wear a head brace.
He was initially supported by Royal Bolton Hospital, before being moved to Bolton Hospice.
As a result of the good work done by the hospice in caring for her father, Miss Marsden, who owns Hairology salon in Chorley Old Road. will take part in a sponsored skydive in Lancaster on September 6.
The 24-year-old, from Lostock, had originally aimed to raise £1,000 but now hopes to raise about £4,000.
She said: “To raise so much money is incredible, especially as I’ve still got time to raise more.
“I want to give something back to Bolton Hospice because they’ve been so good with my dad — I can’t thank them enough.
“Everyone’s really friendly and they can help you at any minute.
“It motivates me that bit more to think I’m raising money for other families like mine.
“I’m a mixture of nerves and excitement for this skydive. I’m trying not to think too much about it, otherwise I’ll get really nervous.”
Mr Marsden has undergone chemotherapy for his condition, which was not successful. He will now undergo radiotherapy at The Christie Hospital.
Mr Marsden, of Tonge Moor, said: “Danielle’s generosity has just blown my mind. I’m so proud of her. I don’t know how she does it.
"Bolton Hospice staff have been an absolute blessing. They have saved my life. This is all about raising awareness of the work they do.
"They need the money to help other people like me, so it’s important for their profile.”
