YOUNG Wanderers striker Jamie Thomas celebrated his recent call-up to the Wales under-19 squad with four goals as David Lee’s youth side beat Blackburn 5-1 on Saturday.
The Whites went into their first home game of the FA U18 Premier League campaign off the back of a creditable goalless draw at Manchester United in their season opener and began brightly when Thomas netted two first-half goals – the second a superb free-kick from 25 yards as Lee’s side went into the interval 2-1 to the good.
Thomas completed his hat-trick after the break from an acute angle before Carl Kennedy made it four with a delightful 20-yard chip.
And the scoring was complete when Thomas again showed his eye for goal with a low shot.
Coach Lee said: “We created good goalscoring chances throughout the game and out inventiveness caused problems for Blackburn.
“It was a very convincing team performance, with quality goals and build-up play.
“It was a case of a hard-working team getting their just rewards.”
The U18s are at home again on Saturday when they host Middlesbrough at the Eddie Davies Academy, kick off 12.30pm.
