WANDERERS have got plenty of issues to address right now – but Tim Ream believes a change in goalkeeper is well down the list.
It remains to be seen whether Adam Bogdan will be fit to face Crewe Alexandra tonight in the Capital One Cup or whether Andy Lonergan will be drafted in for a must-win game.
Bogdan suffered a nasty gash and concussion in the weekend defeat at Brighton and will need the doctor’s all-clear before turning out again.
Ream has full confidence in either man and praised the way Lonergan stepped up at the Amex Stadium.
“Both goalkeepers are brilliant,” he said. “For Lonners to come in and make two point-blank saves virtually cold really helped, it gives everyone a bit of confidence.
“He’s up for the fight and that’s something that everyone in the squad should look at and emulate.
“Lonners stepped in last season when Adam got hurt and played at a high level.
“If Adam is right back at it on Tuesday at Crewe or Saturday at Leeds then we’re confident in both of them.”
A potential banana skin might not be what fragile egos in the Wanderers camp need right now after a dismal start to the season.
Ream hopes to use the game at Gresty Road as a springboard for the weekend trip to Leeds United, where he hopes Dougie Freedman’s side can get their campaign on track.
“It’s the cup so you’ve got to go and perform,” he said. “Whether you get into the game or not is down to the manager.
“I think we’ll put out a strong side and try to iron some things out. Whether it’s Championship, League One or League Two doesn’t really matter, we need to get back to winning ways.
“We need to get rid of this feeling and hopefully that will be a springboard for something at Leeds.”
Ream is likely to fill in on the left side of defence again after Dean Moxey picked up another knock in training on Friday.
With Marc Tierney still out for a couple of months, the American has once again had to step up in an unfamiliar position but is making little complaint.
“It’s one of those things that you have to be happy to do,” he said.
“Whether it’s sitting midfielder, centre-back or left-back, I am capable of playing all three. Whatever the role, I’m happy to step in and do a job to the best of my ability.
“Where it is, that’s up to the manager.”
