GREENFINGERED guests had a blooming marvellous day out at Edgworth Horticultural Society’s annual show.
More than 200 people gathered at The Barlow for the 41st annual show, which proved to be a big hit with visitors and growers alike.
Some 120 people exhibited their fruit, vegetables, crafts, photographs and artwork and organisers were particularly impressed that many of the entrants were youngsters.
Judges said good growing conditions this season had led to a wider range of entries.
Michael Cooper lifted the Hepburn Shield for best gentleman, Wendy McKenna won the Leicester Cup for best lady and 15-year-old Sarah Booth took home the Stuart Cup for best child.
Pat Whalley, one of the event organisers, said: “We were thrilled with the turnout and with the range of entries and entertainment on the day.
“Everyone has had a lot of fun and the weather has kept on our side. We start organising the show in February and a lot of work goes in.
“It’s always interesting seeing what items grow well some years and poorly in others. This year, we had some very impressive cabbages.”
The Rev Stephen Parsons, of the Moorland Team Ministry, presented the prizes. He nominated Diabetes UK as the event’s chosen charity.
The organisation will receive a share of the proceeds from the day.
