A HIGH school teacher is aiming to become the UK’s number one teacher of 3D printing — for the second year running.
Philip Cotton, who teaches design and technology at Ladybridge High School, has been shortlisted for the prestigious 3D Printshow Educational Excellence Award, which he won last year.
Mr Cotton has introduced 3D printing at the school to teach his pupils the skills needed for the time when 3D printing will revolutionise industry.
Last year, Mr Cotton was the only teacher shortlisted for the award and he beat industry leaders to the prize. He said: “I am really happy and proud to be shortlisted again. For myself and my students to be recognised nationally for 3D printing is a major achievement. It shows that Ladybridge high school is at the forefront of technology education in the UK.
“We are proud that our students are leading the manufacturing revolution in 3D printing and the students are some of the best nationally.”
Ladybridge School is now a regular point of contact for other teachers, education providers and 3D printing companies, with Mr Cotton running workshops for university students who are training to be teachers at The University of Manchester.
Mr Cotton is one of three in the running for the award.
