A HORWICH care home has created an award-winning display to mark 100 years since the start of World War One.
St Catherine’s Care Home’s display won a special commendation award in the World War One category of Horwich in Bloom.
The home’s staff and residents worked together for about six weeks to create the display, which includes a tank made of ply board, trenches, guns, planes and a scarecrow soldier. While making the display, people also collected different items from relatives who fought during the war, such as army uniforms.
Gillian Johnson, manager of the home, said: “The residents have all been really involved in making the display and eager to finish it.
“Everyone has contributed, even down to watering the plants.
“We’re really happy with how it looks and we’re delighted to win an award.”
