BOLTON band Cherry Ghost will play an award-winning festival, billed as an intimate banquet of music, arts and culture.

Festival No.6 will welcome frontman Simon Aldred and his bandmates to the picturesque village of Portmeirion, North Wales, for the event next month.

Also on the bill with the People Help the People singers are headliners Beck, London Grammar and Pet Shop Boys, as well as Kelis, Tom Odell, Neneh Cherry, Jon Hopkins, Julio Bashmore, Los Campesinos!, Jimi Goodwin and Martha & the Vandellas.

The event will take place over the weekend of September 5 to 7 in Portmeirion, a coastal resort which was home to the cult 1960s TV series The Prisoner.

Festival director Bradley Thompson said: “We cannot wait for the third year of No.6.

“The line-up is extremely strong and we’re very excited to have booked truly iconic artists like Beck, who was very keen to play Festival No.6.

“We’ve also got a stronger DJ line-up than ever demonstrating that the event is growing from strength to strength.”

As well as a mix of iconic and up-and-coming music acts, the festival also has a huge arts and cultural line-up including acclaimed best-selling authors, comedians, poets, film-makers, artists and a new cinema.

From Bez’s Question Time, with the Happy Mondays’ maracas-wielding dancer, to a Dylan Thomas centenary tribute, featuring actor Rhys Ifans, director Kevin Allen and BBC 6 Music poet-in-residence Murray Lachlan Young, the arts and culture line-up is an integral part of Festival No.6.

It is also the only festival in the UK to boast its own annual carnival, resident choir and composer-in-residence.

Constructed between 1925 and 1975 by maverick architect Sir Clough Williams-Ellis, Portmeirion is an elaborate weird and wonderful interpretation of a Mediterranean villa, nestled in the waters, mountains and forests of North Wales and overlooking the rolling estuary waters of the Irish Sea.

Organisers also say the bar has been raised with the food and drink options, including long table banquets catered for by Michelin starred chef Aiden Byrne, street food and a market.

Festival No.6 is on from Friday, September 5, to Sunday, September 7.
