A BOLTON junior football team have finished runners-up at an international competition.
Eagley Under-9s took part in the English International Super Cup which brought together sides from as far away as Colombia and Kenya for teams aged from u7 to u18s.
The event was held at Bolton Wanderers Academy and all of the kids really enjoyed the experience. Dawn Woolham, team organiser said: “The event was held over two-days and we won all our matches against Braeside School (Kenya), Mini Madrid (Dubai) and Litherland School (Liverpool) on the first day.
“Litherland had another team there and we beat them on the Sunday and also faced Bolton Wanderers and beat them but in the final we took on Mini-Barca.
“We knew that they were made up of players from the Liverpool Academy.
“It was going to be difficult against them.
“We played 22 minutes each way and the quality of the football was excellent.
“We managed to score a few goals against them and they did Bolton proud.
“We are so happy of how they played and the Bolton News should be too as their kits and equipment was sponsored by the newspaper as part of the £500 sports sponsorship grant.
“It was amazing because we are a grassroots club and competed against top football teams and did not disappoint themselves or let anyone down.”
