A LOCAL community group has raised £3,425 for Cancer Research UK through music and dance events.
Sakhi Group, with help of the Hindu community, arranged a “Non-stop Garba-Dandiya Night”, where 500 guests enjoyed traditional Gujarati folk dancing and Indian cuisine.
The evening, at the Memory Lane Function and Banquet Hall in Gilnow Lane, was one of many charity events the group has arranged this year.
To round off the fundraising, the group also ran the Race for Life 5km.
Urvashi Tulsidas, who works at Bolton Hundu Forum, said: “One of my cousins in India died from cancer so it has always been a cause I have been passionate about.
"We have raised money for Cancer Research UK for a number of years now on a smaller scale, but this year we decided that we wanted to go bigger.”
