BOLTON Wanderers’ stewards have been praised for apprehending a teenager suspected of racially abusing a Bury player.

A referee at the Whites’ clash with Bury FC alerted stewards after allegedly hearing racial abuse aimed at Nathan Cameron.

Stewards, who were already looking into the situation, identified where the alleged abuse was coming from and detained three people. One teenage boy was arrested by police.

Bury manager Dave Flitcroft said: “We had an incident with Nathan Cameron and the Bolton stewards dealt with that.

"It was an incident of racist abuse and the Bolton stewards dealt with that brilliantly. Credit to Bolton, they have got zero tolerance and threw the kid out.

“So massive respect to Bolton last night for working like that.

“Again, it just shows you where Nathan’s head is that he can control himself in an environment where he is getting racially abused.”

The incident allegedly took place at The Macron Stadium last night.

A police spokesman said: “At about 9.30pm at The Macron Stadium a 17-year-old youth was arrested on suspicion of a racially aggravated public order offence. He was been bailed until September 25.”
