POLICE have warned residents not to give burglars an open invite.
One in three break-ins reported take place at homes that have been left insecurely.
Ass Ch Cons Garry Shewan said: “We are completely committed to tackling burglary across Greater Manchester.
“During the summer months, we often see an increase in burglary from unattended open doors and windows.
“We are urging residents to think about how this creates an opportunity for burglars, even when you are at home or outside enjoying the sunshine.
“By working with police, residents can avoid giving burglars an easy ride.”
People are advised to set light timers when they are going out to make the home look occupied and to set alarms.
People can reduce the risk of falling foul to burglars by joining a Home Watch scheme.
