THERE is a greater risk of being hit by an uninsured driver in the UK compared to the rest of Europe, according to a leading Bolton lawyer.
Derrick Smethurst, a personal injury partner at Russell and Russell Solicitors in St George’s Road, Bolton, spoke out during National Road Victim Month about figures released by the Department for Transport. The figures show road death nationally fell to their lowest ever level last year.
Mr Smethurst said: “While it’s good news, there are around 1.2 million uninsured motorists on UK roads, equating to one in 36 drivers, which means there’s a greater risk of being hit by an uninsured driver in the UK than anywhere else in Europe.”
