A REAL life Rapunzel is letting down her long hair — and having it all chopped off for charity.
Nine-year-old Kay-Leigh Thornton decided she wanted to donate her hair to make wigs for cancer patients after seeing a video on YouTube about a young girl who had the disease.
To support her daughter, who attends the Ferns Academy, proud mum Melanie said will be shaving her head, along with her friend Suzanne Worthington, on Saturday at a fundraising day at The Market Hotel in Farnworth.
Kay-Leigh’s hair will go to the Little Princess Trust, which provides wigs for children suffering hair loss, and any money raised will go to Bolton Hospice.
Ms Thornton, of Central Avenue, Farnworth, said: “When Kay-Leigh said she wanted to donate her hair I was so proud of her I said straight away I’d shave mine off too.
“Then Suzanne said she’d get involved so we thought we’d make a day of it and raise as much money as we could for Bolton Hospice.”
Sponsor forms are available at The Market Hotel in Farnworth.
