Band name: Peur
Members: Sam Tempest, Joe Lomax and Ryan Clarke Greenhalgh
When and where did you form?
We formed in late 2010 as a covers band in Bolton, but quickly began to write original music. In 2013, we decided that we wanted to change our name and take being in a band seriously, with the aim that one day this could actually be our job.
What is your sound and who are your influences?
We have a very distorted sound. As a three-piece, we try to compensate for the lack of members with many effects pedals like octaves and distortion on both bass and guitar. We also always try to use loop pedals to give that little extra when playing. Our influences span from Queens of the Stone Age and Nine Inch Nails through to post rock bands like 65daysofstatic and This Will Destroy You. I would like to think that this gives us a little niche sound musically that is approachable but is complex enough for a good music buff to be intrigued by us.
What is the biggest gig you have played to date?
The biggest gig we have played to date has to be our headline show at Sound Control in Manchester. We packed the place out and it was bouncing throughout our set. The sound in that venue was also just amazing. We want to go back there at some point, hopefully soon.
If you are not already, is it your ambition to become professional?
I'd like to say our ambition has always to become professionals. But we now have begun to take it seriously and work a little harder at it. We don't currently earn enough to make it a full-time job but hopefully in the not too distant future we can achieve that dream.
Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
In 10 years I see our band selling out Wembley... I suppose you have to aim high!
Is there anything unusual or interesting about the band?
A few unusual facts about our band is that Ryan's left leg is wooden, but his foot is real. Joe’s real name is actually Memphis and Sam is 72 years of age. We still can't seem to get Sam’s secret though. We shall make sure you are the first to know when we do!
Upcoming gigs?
We have a show at the Lomax on September 5. Other than that we are just focusing on our studio time and putting the final touches on the next couple of projects we have waiting.
