DOUGIE Freedman is hoping to keep the momentum going as his side prepare to finish off their Scandinavian tour tonight.

Wanderers will face Swedish top-flight side Mjallby AIK at the compact 7,000-seater Strandvallen stadium, some 80 miles from their training base for the past week in Malmo.

A battling draw against Brondby was followed by another gritty win at FC Vestsjaelland – and while the Whites boss has had to deal with some disappointments in the transfer market, he is happy with what is happening on the pitch.

“It doesn’t need to be flashy at this stage of the season but winning helps,” he told The Bolton News.

“The players have worked very, very hard for me over here – you’ve seen we’ve been on triple sessions some days. But the lads have taken it all on board.

“There were a few tired legs out there towards the end (of the Vestsjaelland game) but that is only to be expected.

“The plan now is to give another few of the younger lads 90 minutes against Mjallby so by the time we’ve played Macclesfield on Friday night, I want most of my players to have played the same amount of football.

“Results are not the be all and end all, but it is good for the fans who have come out here to support us when we can give them a goal or they can see some decent football. I think they have so far.”

Adam Bogdan, Mark Davies, Liam Trotter and David Wheater have sat out the last two games and could do so again, but Freedman was last night mulling over whether to give Trotter 45 minutes against the Swedish side, who finished 13th in the Allsvenkan last season.

In terms of quality, Mjallby appear to be along similar lines to their last opponents, Vestsjaelland.

The Yellow and Blacks boast a vastly-experienced side, led by much-travelled coach Lars Jacobson, whose biggest achievement in management to date is guidng another smaller club, Halmstads, to the runners-up spot in the top division in 2004.

In goal for the Swedish club is 40-year-old former Real Sociedad keeper and club captain Mattias Asper, while up front burly front man Marcus Ekenburg has played nearly 400 games for the club over 12 years.

Local reports also say to keep an eye out for teenage Ghanaian striker Kwame Bonsu and goalscoring winger Andreas Blomqvist.
