AT time of writing, the football has not yet started at the Brondby Stadion – but I nevertheless felt my trip here was worth writing home about.
I’m based in the middle of Copenhagen, a stone’s throw away from the Central Station, and a 15-minute train ride to the suburb of Brondby on what is known locally as the S-Train.
Glostrup is the nearest station to the ground, five stops away, so I made a quick check on Google and found a site that had a literal English translation for each of the stations on the line.
I discovered to my amusement my journey would take me through Dance High (Danshej), White Over (Hvidovre), Red Over (Redovre) and Eastwell City (Brondbyoster) until finally arriving at Glostrup – translated to Gawkerville.
Beyond my station on the Green Line lay Toeville (Tastrup) and Higher Toeville (Hoje Tastrup), while other truly magical names lay further afield.
How about a trip to Stoneless... or Moistville perhaps? And surely you could not resist going to May Be Leafy or Eel Island?
They may not have the sights and sounds of Copenhagen itself but if I could find a fridge magnet, my life would be complete.
The weather has been incredible since I arrived, and I have noticed a few Wanderers shirts in the many bars around here.
I’m hoping today will be my first trip into Malmo to watch a training session and have a catch-up with the Wanderers camp as so far I have had to be content clicking through pictures of the players on the club’s Facebook page.
It feels a little invasive – perhaps Gawkerville is the best place for me?
I’ve noticed the lads seem to be wearing their GPS tracking devices, which makes their training gear look a little like the infamous “sports bra” kit from 2008.
No wonder Johan Elmander never looked happy in those early days.
