ENGLAND may be heading home after a dire World Cup campaign but one Wanderers fan is still enjoying life in Brazil.

Whites supporter Joel Hughes, pictured here proudly displaying the club flag in front of the iconic Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio de Janeiro, has enjoyed the tournament despite England’s disappointing efforts.

With ex-Wanderers player Gary Cahill and former loan stars Jack Wilshere and Daniel Sturridge heading home early, the only remaining Whites representative is Chung-Yong Lee, who also looks set to return home, barring a miracle turnaround in group H tonight.

Mr Hughes, aged 26, from Morecambe, is a member of the Lancaster Whites supporters group.

He said: “My dad and grandad are from Bolton so I had no choice in supporting Wanderers and it was great to show the flag in Brazil.

"I have also proudly been wearing my McGinlay 1995 Whites shirt here in Brazil.

"The tournament has been great despite England being so poor, but we have been watching games on the beach and the Maracana stadium is awesome.”

Mr Hughes is staying in Brazil until Sunday.
