EL-HADJI Diouf and his Senegal team-mates lit up the tournament with their performances at the 2002 World Cup in South Korea and Japan.
Diouf came to England on the back of his successful World Cup campaign, but after his career faltered at Liverpool he joined Wanderers in 2004.
He stayed at the Reebok until 2008, signing permanently in November 2005 for £5.5 million.
The Senegal international became a fans’ favourite with the Whites during his 136 appearances, despite his often controversial and erratic behaviour.
Diouf started every game in Japan and Korea as Senegal reached the quarter-finals in their first and only appearance in the World Cup finals.
In the opening game of the tournament Senegal recorded a shock 1-0 victory over holders France, before taking a point off both Uruguay and Denmark to finish second in their group.
Senegal beat Sweden 2-1 after extra time in the last 16 , but fell short in the quarter-finals losing 1-0 to Turkey in extra-time.
Diouf played 69 games for his national side, scoring 21 goals between 2000 and 2009 and was twice voted African Player of the Year The attacker left Wanderers for Sunderland in a £2.6million move in July 2008, and has had spells at Blackburn, Rangers, Doncaster before joining Leeds in August 2012.
