A BOLTON School sixth form student has had an unbelievable few weeks chasing glory at schools and international level.
Haseeb Hameed has been playing international cricket for two years, following on from playing at a county level for Lancashire. The 16-year-old qualified to join the England Cricket Development Programme, and now plays for the England Under-17s team. He was appointed captain just days before they travelled out to tour Sri Lanka.
He helped the Three Lions side to win the first one-day game of the three-match series at Surrey Village cricket ground. The rest of the series was played at R. Premadasa International Cricket Stadium. However, the England team were not able to hold on to their lead, and unfortunately lost the series 2-1.
They went on to draw the three-day match, which was also held at R. Premadasa Stadium. Haseeb was pleased with their achievements.
He said: “We did really well to draw the three-day match. “They were dominating after the first two days, but we dragged it back on the third day.”
The U17 team has now returned to the UK, and been thrown straight back into the start of the UK’s cricket season. He added: “It’s mainly matches now that the season's started over here, but that’s good.”
Hameed has since returned to help Bolton School 1st XI cricket team to the Twenty/20 cup success with two centuries.
