GET down to a jazz club and enjoy the sounds of New Orleans in Bromley Cross.

Eagley Jazz Club hosts events every month with the next — Spirit of New Orleans — being held on Bank Holiday Monday, May 5.

It will be followed by a visit from trad jazz band, Six In A Bar, who will be at Dunscar Conservative Club, Hardmans Lane, Bromley Cross, on Monday, May 19.

On Monday, June 2, a special charity night will be held starring The Chicago Teddy Bears Society Jazz Band.

The event, which will start at 7pm, is in aid of Rosemere Cancer Foundation and tickets cost £15.
On Monday, June 16, there will be a performance by the Lune Valley Jazzmen.

The club was founded in 1985 by Bernard Callaghan, at Eagley Sports and Leisure Club, Bromley Cross.

It quickly prospered and offers its members quality traditional jazz presented by some of the country’s top bands as well as jazz musicians from abroad.

The club moved to its new venue, less than a mile away, in 2001.

Club committee member Jeff Gilpin, from Bromley Cross, said: “It’s £7 a year to become a member.

“We’ve started getting a few people in aged 30 to 40. The rest are more or less 55 and up.

“We usually get about 70 people to an event but we can hold 120.

“It’s very friendly. We do have a raffle in the interval. We’re not profit making, we just cover our expenses.

“I’ve always been a trad jazz fan.”

The sessions are held in Dunscar Conservative Club’s concert room twice a month, on the first and third Mondays from 8.30pm, with occasional specials in months containing five Mondays.
