HUNDREDS of people have signed a petition calling for speeds to be slashed on a country road.
People living close to Bradshaw Road have collected more than 300 signatures calling on police to review the speed limit outside their homes.
Grandfather-of-three Roy Adams launched the campaign after becoming increasingly concerned about the speed of cars travelling along the 40mph stretch of road.
He said: “It’s a 40mph zone, which shifts to 50mph and then down to 30mph, it’s ridiculous.
“At nights and weekends there are absolute idiots who come along here — some of them must be going at 70mph, especially the motorbikes.
“When they fly up and down the road it’s very frightening.
“There’s lot of accidents that don’t get reported — I saw one just up the road from me where two vehicles were put three feet through a hedge.”
Bradshaw councillor Mudasir Dean has backed the campaign and said he was taken aback by the strength of feeling on the issue.
He added: “I joined the concerned residents helping them knock on doors to get a real feeling of people’s views on the issues of speeding on Bradshaw Road — I knew it was a problem but I was really surprised at the extent of the level of concern, from the whole area there were only two people who refused to sign the petition.
“Cars are travelling at crazy speeds further up Bradshaw Road and many incidents involving single vehicles go unreported.
“My concern has always been for children, dog walkers, joggers and law abiding drivers in the area.”
The petition will now be passed on to the council.
