FRIENDLY folk and those in need of company can join a new befriending scheme in Boothstown and Worsley.
Local resident Mavis Grundy, aged 71, who has been volunteering since she was 15, came up with the idea. She currently runs Cafe 55 at Boothstown Community Centre and organises events and trips for local people.
Cllr Margaret Morris, assistant mayor for health and wellbeing, said supporting the new scheme was part of a programme being carried out by Salford Council to help older people stay healthy and involved. Those interested should ring 0800 952 1000.
