WILDLIFE lovers are being urged to give hedgehogs a boost this spring as they wake from their winter hibernation.
The RSPB says the creatures lose a third of their body weight during their winter snooze and may struggle to find the natural food they need.
Richard James, an RSPB’s wildlife adviser said: “It’s estimated that UK hedgehogs have declined by a third in the last ten years, so it's vital that we do our bit.”
The RSPB has launched a new food called Cranberry Crunch for hedgehogs, and residents can also set up shelters in their garden. Visit rspb.org.uk/ homes for information.
