Band name: Our Last Riot
Members: Phil Adams, Rob Aspray, Daniel Harper, John M Armstrong and Danny Fenton
When and where did you form? The band is from Bolton and Bury. We originally formed in 2002 under the name Jupiter Sands, however there were so many line-up changes, the only members left were John and Danny F so we decided for a fresh start, a fresh name and a different angle to the music so we changed our name to Our Last Riot in 2011.
What is your sound and who are your influences? We like music with guitars, music people have had to have some kind of talent to write — Neil Young, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, to name a few and even a lot of indie stuff like James, Paul Weller and Oasis. We like bands that can do it live and love the bands that completely lose it onstage. You know it’s real then.
What is the biggest gig you have played to date? We played Manchester Academy 2 a while back, I'd say that.
If you are not already, is it your ambition to become professional? We pretty much know that’s not going to happen. We don’t have the right haircuts and we are very lazy.
Where do you see yourself in 10 years? Not sure really, most likely still playing. We love just getting together once a week and making noise. We really don’t gig enough, we did a lot more when we were younger but a few of us have kids and life kinda takes over. We really wanted to get signed and live the dream years ago but, to be honest, you have to be realistic. Not that I don’t believe we’re good enough because we will go toe-to-toe with any band, it’s just that most music these days is manufactured and made to fit either a fashion, I mean, can you name a guitar hero in the last 15 years? I know loads of brilliant local bands, bands that need to be heard but don't get the recognition they deserve. Hopefully when Our Fold get this awaited CD out they can get the break they deserve because bands like that don't come along very often and people need to take note. We have a single coming out in the next few month called Fatal. It will be available on iTunes and Spotify so hopefully we can get our music to the masses too.
Is there anything unusual or interesting about the band? Danny Harper has 17 toads as pets in his house and he calls them his babies. Rob was arrested once for sleep-walking down his road in Ramsbottom naked. Phil was once pulled from an icy lake trying to save his dog and Danny Fenton is related to Benjamin Netinyaho, the news reader.
Upcoming gigs? We are supporting Republica on May 7 at the Longfield Suite, Prestwich.
