BOLTON-born DJ Mark Radcliffe visited a record shop to reveal plans for a two-day music festival.

The first ever BBC Radio 6 Music Festival will take place at Victoria Warehouse, Trafford Wharf Road, Manchester, on Friday, February 28, and Saturday, March 1.

The former Bolton School pupil called into independent record shop Piccadilly Records in Manchester’s Northern Quarter on Tuesday, along with 6 Music co-host Stuart Maconie and the station’s Lauren Laverne.

From indie to electronica, folk to rock to soul, the line-up features major and established acts and current and emerging artists championed by the network and its presenters.

The station’s presenters have been announcing the line-up throughout the day with Jake Bugg, Horrors, The Staves, Haim, The National, Bombay Bicycle Club, Groove Armada, Tim Burgess, Gilles Peterson, Peter Hook and Kelis among the acts announced so far.

The last act is due to be revealed at 5.20pm.

BBC North director Peter Salmon said: “The north west music scene is vibrant and eclectic, with Manchester and BBC Radio 6 Music at its heart.

“We are thrilled the network's inaugural festival, with its imaginative programme, is based here and shared with the nation.”

The event, featuring more than 30 acts and DJs over three stages, will be accompanied by a Fringe Festival during the daytime, with free tickets available via a BBC audience ballot.

Tickets to each night of the festival will be available from noon on Friday and are £25 (plus booking/postage fees).
