BOLTON darter Lisa Ashton was ‘on top of the world’ literally after picking up the BDO Championship.

However, the 43-year-old had to do it the hard way after coming from two sets down to beat top seed and World number one Deta Hedman in the final.

Speaking to The Bolton News, Lisa said: “It was a dream come true and has not really sunk in yet.

“It was not easy and some people have been saying that I gave everybody in Bolton a heart attack because it was so nerve-wracking and nail-biting.”

Top seed Hedman needed just one leg for victory at 2-1 up in the third set in Saturday’s final but Ashton won the next five legs to level the match at 2-2 and then won the first leg of the deciding set.

World number one Hedman briefly rallied to take the second leg of the fifth set but Ashton hit double six to win the third leg and double 10 for the title.

Ashton said: “I just kept going and when I got the 120 and won the leg I just kept going.

“All of my family and friends were on my side and carried me all the way to give me the extra umph to win.”

It was great weekend for Lancashire as St Helens’ darter Stephen Bunting won the men’s title earlier tonight.
