FORMER Wanderers midfielder Paul Comstive has passed away at the age of 52.
Southport-born, Comstive arrived at Burnden Park in 1989 from Burnley for a fee of £37,500.
He played 67 games for the Whites, 10 as a substitute, and scored five goals before moving to Chester City in 1991, where he became the first person to score at the club’s new Deva Stadium.
Before arriving at Bolton he spent time with the likes of Wrexham and Burnley, featuring for the Clarets in their 1987 Sherpa Van Trophy final victory over Wolves at Wembley.
He is perhaps best remembered among Wanderers fans or scoring two goals direct from corners against Bournemouth on New Year’s Day, 1991.
Southport FC confirmed the news on their official website last night, stating that their former player had died of a heart attack.
