MARC Tierney faces several weeks out of action after fracturing his foot in Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Yeovil.

The courageous defender came off second best in a full-blooded challenge with Glovers defender Shane Duffy in the second half at the Reebok and had to be helped off the pitch.

Initial scans have shown a break in his foot, although it will not be known until later this morning what treatment will take place.

Dougie Freedman was preparing for bad news after seeing the summer signing in such pain after the game.

“It is quite bad,” he said. “Until he’s had a scan I can’t say exactly what it is.

“He’s certainly in a lot of pain so it looks more than just a kick to the leg.”

Tierney’s injury leaves Wanderers without a recognised senior left-back heading into tomorrow’s clash with Blackpool.

Freedman is hoping that international clearance will be granted for Cardiff City loanee Kevin McNaughton to feature at Bloomfield Road, which is likely to mean Alex Baptiste shifted to the left of the back four against his former club.

But that is by no means certain, and the Whites boss is keeping his fingers crossed for some good luck from football’s governing body.

“It’s left in FIFA’s hands right now because I don’t think they are too keen on the loan system,” he said. “Hopefully it will be sorted Monday morning because Marc (Tierney) doesn’t look good.”
