A SINGER told of her delight after taking to the stage with music legend Sir Elton John.
Jennifer Kristian’s love for performing first blossomed as a youngster, at St Philips Amateur Operatic Dramatic Society.

The 28-year-old, who teaches music and drama at a school in Qatar, was one of a choir of 12 Royal Academy of Music (RAM) graduates who performed with the star in a programme to celebrate his career.

The former St Joseph's High School pupil, from Lostock, said: “To be part of such an incredible event was exciting and humbling.

“The atmosphere when recording the show was electric.

“Stars such as Elton John, Rod Stewart and Dermot O'Leary were all involved and it has been a privilege and an honour to work with some of the best.

“The performing profession is difficult but this event has been worth every minute.”

The singer, who went to St Bernard's Primary School in Ladybridge, trained for three years at the Birmingham School of Acting before studying musical theatre at RAM in London, of which Sir Elton is a patron and former student.

She was able to attend thanks to financial support from family and friends, as well as a grant awarded by The Rotary Club of Bolton le Moors, which meets at the Last Drop Hotel, Bromley Cross.

Proud father Michael Bowling turned 60 on the day the programme was recorded and attended the event with wife Julie.

He said: “It was a red carpet do. Lots of stars came along. It was unbelievable.

“The dress code was smart but flamboyant.”

The show was screened on Friday to celebrate the 66-year-old receiving the first ever Brits Icon Award and saw him perform hits including I’m Still Standing, Your Song, Tiny Dancer and Rocket Man, as well as songs from upcoming album, The Diving Board.

Sir Elton, who has sold more than 250 million records worldwide, said: "It's a tremendous honour and a real thrill for me to have my work acknowledged in this way.”
