WHEN DJ-ing twins Arthur and David Sandiford started out, vinyl was king, with the likes of David Bowie and Diana Ross topping the charts.

Now the pair are celebrating their 40th anniversary of spinning tunes, having played their first gig on August 11, 1973, which was a 21st birthday party at The Market Hotel, Brackley Street, Farnworth.

But while many DJs made the switch from vinyl to CD and now digital, the brothers — known as Twins Revival Disco — are sticking to what they know.

Arthur, aged 62, said: “We use CDs. We can’t be mithered. We’re not that technically minded to get into that kind of thing.”

The pair were working at manufacturers Markland Scowcroft, in Bromley Cross, when they first started, packing out many a dance floor at venues across the region, including the Rawson Arms Hotel, Peel Street, Farnworth, and Fletcher Street Barracks, Bolton.

Arthur, of Hadleigh Close, Astley Bridge, said: “We had started collecting records in 1969 and had a decent collection.

“We thought, we will have to save up and get some proper disco stuff.

“We played 60s and 70s. The Hollies, Slade, David Bowie “We had quite a few LPs, and we used to do games and pop quizzes, but they seem to have dropped off now.”

Arthur and father-of-one David, who is 10 minutes older, have played to thousands of partygoers over the years, at celebrations including birthdays, with recent events having been held at New Globe, Duke Street, Bolton, and Hilltop Sports and Social Club in Blackrod.

Arthur, who was brought up with his twin in Hall i’ th’ Wood, said: “We’ve never been out of work since the day we started.

“We’ve had ups and downs. Some people don’t like it but they are just a speck in the ocean.

“We will only stop when we have to.”
