WANDERERS are putting fun back into family football at the Reebok Stadium.

The club has revamped the North Stand Upper tier, which is aimed at bringing a fresh new approach to match-days for fans with younger children.

Video games, a cinema zone, magicians, free coaching sessions and a host of other activities are being crammed into a new-look Family Stand, which will open officially before the Reading game on August 10.

Teenage fans are also being catered for with a new internet and gaming zone, while the whole place has been given a makeover, complete with comic book-style pictures of Wanderers heroes past and present.

Kevin Davies, Ivan Campo and Youri Djorkaeff are some of the more modern names now plastered on the walls but stars of the distant past have also been recognised, with information on pre-war heroes David Jack, Harry Goslin and Joe Smith there for younger supporters to become familiar with.

Wanderers asked fans to come forward with some of their favourite memories of following the club, and many of the submissions have been expressed in huge posters that now brighten up the concrete concourses and stairwells.

The stand has been sponsored by Bartercard, and season ticket holders for any part of the ground are welcome to transfer, given prior arrangement.

Wanderers staff will be on hand to monitor the activities, which will kick-off before the game starts and continue during the match so that youngsters can come and go from the seats as they please.

Richard Gough, the club’s head of sales, hopes the more family-oriented feel of the stand will encourage more parents to introduce their youngsters to match-days.

He said: “We are delighted with the bright and colourful design of the new family area and hope that the activities that we are planning within the stand will deliver an extra special match-day experience for our junior supporters and their families.

“It is all part of the wider development of match-day activities, which has included setting up a supporter focus group to discuss these possibilities.”

A new PA system is also being introduced in the stadium complete with a new announcer.

Tower FM’s Matt Munroe will take over the microphone from long-serving “Voice of the Reebok” Colin McGreavy from the Reading game onward, introducing a host of new activities and half time entertainment.
