University of Bolton student, Sally Giles, is celebrating after picking up the top student prize in European Law at the annual Bolton Law Society dinner.
Sally is in the third year of her joint honours Business and Law degree. She won the prize for being top of her class in the subject of European Law. She said: ‘I was surprised but very honoured to receive the award. It is an excellent addition to my CV.’
Sally’s award is all the more impressive as she secured it while combing her studies with her full-time, high-profile job at the North West Aerospace Alliance (NWAA). NWAA is a regional trade association for the aerospace industry.
Sally has worked at NWAA for six years, starting out as a project coordinator for the Aerospace Supply Chain Excellence programme (ASCE). She now works as Commercial Assistant for ASCE2, a £12 million Government funded Supply Chain development project.
Her role includes a variety of tasks, from running and standardising tendering processes in line with Government procurement rules, supplier and customer management to contract drafting and project coordination. Sally now aims to put the knowledge learnt from her degree into practice on a day-to-day basis.
She added: ‘The NWAA is sponsoring my degree as part of my professional development for which I am most grateful. I will continue to use my learning in my current role. I would like to progress my career in a Business Administration role, with the intention of working towards becoming a Company Secretary in the future.’
Sally’s Law Society prize has also whetted her appetite for Higher Education. She is hoping to carry on her studies upon graduation, but may take a well-earned rest beforehand. She added: ‘I am also considering doing an MBA following my graduation from my current course; however I may take a year out for first.’
