ONE of the country’s top judges has been appointed as head of the University of Bolton.
The university has appointed the Rt Hon Lord Justice Ryder, Lord Justice of Appeal, as its next Chancellor.
Sir Ernest Ryder, pictured, succeeds The Baroness Morris of Bolton whose three year term of office began in 2010 when she was appointed the first Chancellor of the University of Bolton.
Sir Ernest was born and raised in Bolton and was educated at Bolton School. He later graduated from the University of Cambridge.
Vice Chancellor, Dr George Holmes, said: “Sir Ernest’s appointment is a significant step for the university. His academic rigour and eminent standing in a subject which is central to the university’s future growth and his connection to us and our town make him the natural successor to Lady Morris.
“We will be forever indebted to Lady Morris for her for her support and the conviction with which she has carried out her duties.”
The Rt Hon Lord Justice Ryder is expected to start in his new role at the start of next year.
“We are very pleased he has accepted our invitation to be the next Chancellor of the University of Bolton.”
He added: “We will be forever indebted to Lady Morris for her for her heartfelt support and the conviction with which she has carried out her duties.
The Rt Hon Lord Justice Ryder is expected to start in his new role at the start of next year.
